Aptamil Pepti on prescription

Hi all! How did you get Pepti on prescription? We have been referred for suspected cows milk allergy but are not being seen until January. Our GP isn’t sure if he can prescribe pepti if an allergy hasn’t been diagnosed yet, so we have bought it over the counter instead. January is obviously a long wait so we are kind of hoping there’s a way for us to get Pepti prescribed before then 😅 Thank you!

If your lil one have cmpa symptoms and you start using pepti 1 and if the symptoms improve or disappear and your lil one gets well that’s the proof of his allergy. so you can tell that to gp and the health visitor but usually the infant feeding team who does the prescription not the gp it’s worth to speak with them.

And I don’t get it where did they refer you to? Because to diagnose an allergy if it’s not life threateningly severe they can do it at home via prescribing the special milk using it for 2-4weeks and if symptoms improve and lil on gets well usually they reintroduce the cows milk and if symptoms come back and baby gets unwell than there is a diagnosis .

GP should do a prescription because most CMPA can’t be diagnosed with a test. They diagnose it based on if symptoms improve or get worse on CMPA milk

@Sara We have been referred to the dietician and peaditrician but not being seen until January 😖 The health visitor made sure my GP referred us, after they refused to refer me at my request. I’m glad to hear this usually goes differently from the expierence I’ve had.

@Hannah I thought so! I have literally changed GP surgery as they said they couldnt prescribe it to me. And now my new GP is saying it’s too expensive to be put on NHS without diagnosis. 😅

I’m so confused by this, my doctors just prescribed it when I said I think my baby has it and when it made a difference they put it straight on repeat prescription!

@Elvira that’s crap. They can’t diagnose without you trialing it. Ask to speak to the practice manager x

@Jamie My GP has now offered to discuss with the pharmacist to see what they can do. Hopefully we’ll get it on prescription after the weekend. I really don’t understand why they won’t prescibe, especially after reading multiple other expierences on here 😫

@Elvira my gp very rude they told me they not allowed to prescribed cmpa formulas only infant feeding team can 🤷🏻‍♀️they were very rude to me and put me down but because my other kids had cmpa aswel the hv was very nice she knows us so I got in touch straight away with dietitian and infant feeding team and we got the milk prescription on the same day. The paediatrician appointment took us one year of waiting to get it gp referred us ofc not urgent referral that’s why ours took so long to get there and by the time we got the blood test done and check up my baby was over one year old and he outgrown the cmpa 🤷🏻‍♀️these days the health care system is rubbish and they seem to be very careless aswel

@Sara Ok good to know! Thank you so much. I wasn’t even aware of the Infant Feeding Team 😅 will give them a call for sure to see what they can do! 🙏

Your GP is being a dick tbh. I'd personally buy a tin yourself and try it, then if symptoms improve go back to your GP with this information. My baby has Pepti 1, we were diagnosed with a suspected allergy at the hospital after going to A&E, but I don't think my baby has an allergy, more that she struggles to digest the proteins in their full form in normal formula

Or better still, ask on FB if anyone has a spare tin or 2 they can give you to try 🙏

Our GP first prescribed the pepti 1 and referred us to the dietician as an urgent referral. Some GP surgeries will just do anything to pass the book to other services because it’s too much for them to actually do 🙄 Keep on at them. If not speak to your health visitor they may be able to help (if they’re a good one ha)

Update: My GP sent me a text and suggested we buy lactose free formula instead because we don’t have cmpa diagnosis. 😖 Honestly getting so tired from pushing! Thanks all for your advice, as I know he should be able to prescribe I know to keep pushing but oh so hard when they refuse to listen.

@Elvira ask to speak to the practice manager and ask to see the NHS guidelines on prescribing CMPA formula x
