Tax free childcare and maternity leave

For UK mums, if you are on mat leave with your second child and you are claiming tax free childcare for your first child. When it asks you to reconfirm your details and if you will be earning ‘x’ amount for the next 3 months does that mean when I get to month 9 of mat leave I need to be working again or I won’t qualify? I wanted to take a year mat leave but the last 3 months I will be unpaid so not earning….

I have been wondering the same about the funded hours. I can't really find a definitive answer, hoping someone else has some insight

I’ve just reconfirmed mine. When it asks if you’ll be earning for the next three months it says it doesn’t matter if you’re on maternity leave and to just put no (if you’re going to be on the unpaid bit). I did that and it said I wouldn’t be eligible. However I continued to submit the application and then it got approved anyway. They must be able to know you’re on maternity leave so it was all fine.

As long as you tick that you’re on maternity leave then it will be approved. I just got mine reconfirmed even though I’m in the unpaid bit

I’m in my unpaid part of mat leave, and as above, it makes clear if you’re on stat leave that it doesn’t matter if you don’t earn the minimum amount. I’ve claimed without an issue, ticked the maternity leave box and no problems.

@Amy this I understand, what I don’t know is if it’s still funded when the paid part of mat leave ends, usually at 9 months

Yes it is. You can access it for your older child(ren) for the entirety of your maternity leave
