Food

I keep seeing people feeding their lo’s at 4 months? Isn’t the rule that they aren’t meant to have food until at least 6 months because their stomachs can’t it? Sincerely confused ftm

Solid starts is a great resource. I think generally yes but we started giving our bub things a bit earlier than 6 months like a cold stick of carrot (things that couldn't break down) in one of the mesh teething feeders you can get from the chemist a) to help with teething and b) just to get him a little used to the concept of food, flavour, texture etc. So he wasn't really 'eating' anything, more exploring food if that makes sense.

Yes the most up to date advice is to wait until 6mo, but people still follow outdated advice, grandparents etc

There's no "rule" but there are recommendations. The recommendation is typically around 6 months, but not before 4 months. Some paeds recommend from 4 months with high allergy families too. Dr Golly has resources/recommendations on around 4 month starts. Personally, we've started tastes from 4 months. A teaspoon worth of starchy veg every few days. She's also showing most, if not all the recommend signs.

it's 4-6 months. both boys have had it since 4 months

As other people have said, around the 6 month mark but not before 4 months. We were recommended by a paediatrician to start as my son had severe reflux & once he started solids he could be weaned off the medications, but also they have to show all the ready signs, which he was. I second the solid starts app, it shows how to prepare everything according to your child's age so it's safe.

Boob to food is a great resource the book milk to meals has all the info on when to start solids but yes better to wait till they are fully ready and starting with really nutritious foods so not rice cereal

The advice has shifted quite a bit over the past few years and yes, current advice for majority of babies is to start solids at 6 months. A few years ago I started solids with my eldest child at 4 months but back then she was mix fed and weight gain was a little slow so the pros of introducing age appropriate solids seemed to outweight the cons. But with my middle and youngest child (EBF, no weight issues), we waited until 6 months when their digestive system was fully ready.
