Nerves

So I got my gestational diabetes blood draw yesterday. My glucose levels were elevated, and they want me to watch my levels in the next few weeks. They wanted me to do the three hour glucose test, but I didn't really enjoy having no food for that long with my first baby. It made me nearly pass out last time. My OBGYN said they also want to monitor my babies size as my first was a big baby at 9lbs 14oz. They will tell me in a few weeks if I will be considered for induction. They don't want to go the C-section route as I already had one, and they want to do everything to avoid a C-section this time around. Had anyone had some similar situations? I am kind of nervous about it 😬

When you had your first baby you had GD? Did you manage it with diet? My first I had GD and a 7.1 pound baby at 38+5 weeks. Vaginal birth. Managers the GD with diet changes This pregnancy, twin pregnancy so will be induced 37-38 weeks. High 1 hour glucose and I was honest with them, my partner works weeks, my grandma works weeks, all the people I’d have to watch my son for 3 hours work during the week and I’m not gonna drag my 14m to a 3 hour test. I managed it before I can manage it again. My high risk doctor agreed that since my fluid level in one twin went back to normal since the changes I don’t need to do the 3 hour. ❤️ Most GD positive you will be induced at 39 weeks or sooner depending on babies size. Since your first baby was larger I’d say you can expect an induction for sure

@Autumn i did not have GD with my first. Nor have I had it ever. They ruled it out with him even though he was a larger baby.

I’m surprised they will induce you after having had a c-section. My dr said absolutely no he wouldn’t induce me. Apparently there’s more risk of uterine rupture. If I go into natural labor it’s ok, but not induce. I will be having a second c-section. I do have gestational diabetes and they said if it’s controlled, it’s like a “normal” pregnancy. I hope you numbers stay in check!

@Lindsey oh okay, I was unclear because you said you did the 3 hour with your first but didn’t specify if you were positive or not. Fingers crossed for you ❤️

@Usinger I think they were going to induce without medication. Which is called a TOLAC. Trial of Labor after C-section. They use the balloon catheter method.

@Lindsey I’m 33 weeks and hoping for a VBAC. I do have GD this time around but as long as I continue to keep my levels within range through diet and exercise they are still allowing me a TOLAC. Any induction method whether medication or balloon, is still a medical intervention and not your body going into labor naturally. My doctor also has a policy of not inducing for VBACs because of increase risk of uterine rupture but I have seen many positive stories of women who have achieved VBACs after being induced. There are risks either way! Good luck.
