At this stage milks their main source of food so if you wait a few more weeks it's fine. I saw a post the other day on average time to start weaning. In the late 1800s it was 11 months (which I didn't know). Then companies tried to convince people that their baby food was good for babies and it went down from 11 months to suggested 3 months but many staffed as early as 6 weeks! Today we now do 6 months. Just follow baby, as long as they're happy on milk you're doing okay, they might just not be ready despite meeting the steps that show readiness
I saw on a video from a paediatrician yesterday if they are pushing straight out with their tongue that they may not be ready yet. Try not to stress too much, sometimes it just takes them a little longer and if he needs just milk for a little longer that's OK x
Just done a class and the lady said this is all normal. Baby led is doing what they want and if that licking sucking etc they doing their thing. Keep going with it, no pressure and see what happens. Xx
Thanks so much everyone - I really appreciate you all taking the time to answer and it’s eased my mind a lot!!
Hi hon. Don’t stress on this, at this stage some babies are happy just licking food and not swallowing. Eating is a skill, some are quicker than others, mine is happy to lick and taste something other than milk 🥛. Keep doing what you’re doing daily and in a few weeks, he’ll start to swallow it. Don’t compare yourself with others, in the end all our April babies will grow up and walk , eat and talk just like everyone else.
