IVF consultation

We’ve got our IVF consultation coming up which we have had to pay for. I’m nervous because I’ve got a feeling the appointment is to fill in consent forms and work out costs. I really hope there’s more to it than that because we’ve had to pay £240 for the appointment and I’m not convinced it’s going to be anything other than admin and telling us how much it will all cost. After this appointment we make a nurse appointment to hand in the forms and get details of how to do the injections etc. Can someone please give me an idea of what to expect. Thank you.

If you have already had a baseline scan and bloods they will usually chat through that in combination with your fertility history eg how long you have been trying any lifestyle factors, any medical factors eg PCOS and discuss the best treatment options tailored to you. We didn't do any forms at this appointment they were all done between that appointment and the nurses appointment through a portal. This appointment is also a good opportunity to ask questions talk about supplements etc.

We’ve already had the appointment where they reviewed our tests because that’s when they told us IVF was our only option. I’ve not had any other scans/tests since then which is why I’m confused. When I rung and paid they said we’d be completing the required forms (I already have these at home so could fill them in now) and discussing the costs/medication costs which is annoying me because I feel like it’s going to focus on cost and not treatment. I know we need to pay what I’m wanting to know is what they are going to do to increase our chances of it working, I really hope they don’t brush over everything. I mentioned supplements etc at my last appointment and got told there’s no point they won’t do anything to help us 😞

Hmmm interesting. I would definitely just make sure they answer all the questions you have. Hopefully it is more than just forms etc they should explain the whole process for you and ensure that key elements relevant to your situation are considered. Definitely ask them that question and make sure they answer it. Either way good luck! I hope the journey is a smooth one for you 😊

Thank you, I’m already writing my list of questions

I agree with Louise, make sure you get the support and answers from your clinic. You shouldn’t have to pay a consultation to complete forms. If you don’t feel fully comfortable, then I suggest looking for a clinic more suitable for you. You’ll spend a lot of time working with them, and the support and communication they provide will be critical in making this process as positive experience as it can be.

I thought I’d do an update as we had our appointment. We did go through the forms as I expected and completed them but they were explained and we were given details of what to expect from IVF and how it works. I asked all the questions I’d thought of and even though I am a little frustrated we had to pay so much for the appointment it was worth it and we are now 2 months away from starting treatment 😊
