When people say baby eats what we eat …

What does that mean? Eg - How does a baby eat tagine,Kiev, pasta bake etc? Lots of salt in adult food also? Are babies swallowing?

It means that when you're making your own food, you just modify it so that it is suitable for your baby. No added salt, cut up things so they aren't a choking hazard, etc. My husband cooks all our meals and makes the sauces for stuff from scratch so we don't use many tinned stuff, so the salt and sugar content is quite small. Also, to start with babies, swallow very little as they learn how to. At the minute, my baby mostly just licks the food, but that's OK. They dont need more than a small amount of food at 6 months

I'm doing a mix of this if I do a curry or stew or something for us take a few spoons out before seasoning with salt and squash down any chokeable chunks or giving him the veg we have on the side steamed for slightly longer. Pasta is great for babies just be careful which shape you are using

I do use a small amount of salt in what I cook for us and give to my baby, controversial I know, but it tastes so bland otherwise, It's way less than I would normally add, and I season to taste for us afterwards , everythingis from scratch so the only salt is what i add. So far he's had bolagnase, chili (blended), mashed carrot and sweet potato. Each time I portion stuff up for him it does 3 of his meals so he dosent eat what I eat everyday.

Thanks all. I have planned next few days (for us) gnocci / sausage casserole / pumpkin orzo bake - but not sure baby can have this ??

@Flo what shape is good please ?

For pasta we are going to give Farfalle and penne as they can be cooked super soft and baby should still be able to get a good grip

We've only done penne so far, avoid spaghetti and long stuff unless you cut it shorter

So I made a minted lamb shepherds pie for tea one night and I have baby just some mince lamb with a dot of mint sauce mixed in and sweet potatoe on the side 😌x

Baby can eat everything you eat. So don’t be worried. No honey before 1. Be mindful of allergens, that doesn’t mean don’t offer them but ideally don’t attempt at first to offer multiple in one day - that way if baby did have a reaction you’d know what it was from. (Sorry for waffling if you’re already aware of this) Just modify what you can, eg I always cook with salt - pasta / veg etc and I’ve stopped that now. I add it after. My baby legit swallows pretty much nothing 😂 so don’t worry! I now offer baby led food (what I eat) and porridge - she will swallow more of the porridge but is even fussy with that! They need time to get used to texture and taste so don’t be worried if they don’t eat much at all at first x

I just gave them a banana and ended up mashing it as the finger size stick all went in at once 🥺
