Reflux

Did baby gaviscon help with reflux? My baby is now on it and I honestly expected it to work better she is still being sick 😔 although this is only day 2!

You have to give atleast a week to notice a difference , it doesn’t only just make the milk thicker it coats the stomach lining too ,

My LO was on it from 3m and we also tried a different medication after gaviscon as it gave her really bad constipation - ended up going back on gaviscon as it worked better for reflux but had to give her laxatives as well 😔. It did help the vomiting but she was still grizzly and upset a lot of the time (just not as much as before). It was sitting up more and starting solids that seemed to help as well though. Good luck! I know it’s different for lots of people but the general consensus seems to be that gavisocn doesn’t do much for a lot of people x

You need to find the cause of the reflux before medicating it. Medication just masks the issue. Are you breast or bottle feeding? If bottle feeding how are you preparing the bottles? Are you pace feeding? Have you had baby’s latch checked? Does baby have any untreated tension? Any other signs of allergies such as eczema and abnormal poo?

It did nothing for my son, if anything it only made him badly constipated. The anti reflux formula maybe helped a tinyyy bit. The only thing that stopped my son’s reflux was the solids.

Gaviscon worked for my son took about a week and putting it in most of his bottles then was on it up until 6 months then we did every other bottle then every 2 bottles and now he ia 7 months he dosent have it anymore at all but have some just incase he has a bad day as with him teething he has more milk, we were given the go ahead to wean at 4 months as this would help his reflux and it did it was amazing still kept the gaviscon up for a while due to worrying about him throwing up we would take it off him and he would throw up so then gave it in next bottle but now his lil belly is used to the food he is so much better 😉

Do you know why she has reflux? E.g. tongue tie? Allergies? Intolerances? If you know the root cause focus on that 💘

@Ellie we did that. My son had his tongue tie released, we changed feeding position, sitting him upright for 30mins, burping, teats, we tried lactose free milk, special formulas for cmpa. Nothing worked. In the end, we saw a private paediatrician because the GPs and midiwives were like just wait til they start solids at 6mo. The private paediatrician said once he is able to sit up on his own start solids slowly. At 4.5m we started solids and it improved massively, he would only sick up once in a while, then once the more solid food was introduced reflux was gone completely.

@Ellie how can I investigate the root cause? / How do I go about that? HV and GP haven't mentioned root cause x

Read my original comment further up. There’s lots of reasons that he could have reflux

There is soooo much to unload here.. how old is the baby? Are you breastfeeding or bottle? How is the latch? If they are making clicking noises then there's an issue there.. could be tongue tie, could just need help getting latch right, could have tension that needs getting out from an osteopath. We had a nightmare with our first and no one helped! Just told us to wait until he was 1.. which the reflux did stop then. He had tongue tie, tension and then tongue tie re attached! Feel free to message x
