Baby doesn’t eat

Help! My 1YO stilll doesn’t eat food by herself. She doesn’t self feed at all but instead throws whatever I give her onto the floor or use all of her strength to crush it. She is capable and has eaten it in the past (very rare). Even a snack like crisps, she will throw/crush. But if I put bite sizes pieces in her mouth she will eat it. I offer her finger food every day. I eat with her and try to encourage her to copy. I don’t know what else to do she just isn’t interested in putting anything in her mouth. Even feeding her via spoon is a huge battle everyday - no matter what the meal.

It’s very normal to explore food by crushing and throwing 😊 it’s really important to let them do these things and work the food out for themselves albeit very frustrating at times! (& very messy!) Baby should be in control of food at mealtimes though and not have food placed into their mouth. It’s your job to offer food and babies job to decide what to eat. The only way she’ll get better is to let her practice. Also worth noting their growth slows around 1 and therefore the amount of food required decreases from what she’s perhaps been eating before so perhaps she just isn’t hungry all of the time. Have you done BLW from the start or how long have you been BLW? It does take a good while for them to get the hang of things if you started with puree x

Thank you for this As my 1yo refuses to allow anyone feed her except she’s eating herself but she crushes/plays with half and eats some of it .

You are not alone I could’ve wrote this myself it’s so disheartening but nice to know I’m not the only one going through this! He used to be such a good eater and would eat anything BLW but he chocked on some pitta bread a few month ago and it frightened me to death so I stopped giving him BLW for a while, I keep wondering if I’ve put him back by doing this 😔x
