Throwing food

My 13 month was doing great with food and weaning but now he just throws everything on the floor. He is quite obviously hungry but just throws it all. I’m finding it so triggering and stressful, any one know if this is normal? He only wants to eat with a spoon or fork and will not let you feed him at all. He will try feed himself but misses his mouth so any food he is remotely interested in he doesn’t eat because he can’t use a spoon yet. Don’t know whether the contact the HV as it’s driving me insane 🤔

It’s a common phase my little boy has just gone through it! It’s so frustrating but just stick with it and he’ll go back to normal my little one took about 3 weeks to get back to eating properly!! X

Arggg my boy is doing this too. Unless its pasta or fruit. He adores pasta. He has been poorly this week so its been even worse. Last night he didnt even try to eat his tea, just started throwing it so i took it away and my family ate the leftover chicken. I gave him another little scrap of chicken at the end and he ate it then started looking for more when there was none left 😭 so he had like 4 bits of sweetcorn and some yoghurt 🙄 It is most likely just a phase. Alternatively he could be coming down with somthing/teething as they are major culprits in poor eating. If you're not already in the group "baby led weaning for beginners and beyond" on facebook I highly recommend it. Its really reassuring as lots of people posting with similar issues. Good luck! Im sure he will realise that its much more fun to eat the food!

This is a very normal part of development, baby is just exploring with gravity! You can try offering less on the tray at a time this sometimes helps. The only way baby will get better with cutlery is to practice but it’s also totally okay for them to just use their hands. It’s frustrating but baby will take what they need - it’s your responsibility to offer the food and babies responsibility to eat. Really important they’re in control of food at mealtimes to build a healthy relationship with food 😊 Also worth noting around 1 their growth slows down so they require less food than previously so it could also be he just isn’t as hungry as when he was growing rapidly so is more willing to explore what’s on his plate/ tray in other ways! x

I let my little girl use an adult size fork then hold the very end of it and guide it into her mouth whilst she’s using it x
