Potty training...

Hello everyone, I've just joined this group as I've been told by my heath visitor and other professionals my son has a development delay (he's 3 years 3 months) we sort of knew all along but we're hoping he'd catch up as he was also slightly premature at 34 weeks so have kind of always thought it was that. Only now do I know you can get a diagnosis for a delay 😅.... Anyway, his delay is primarily social communication and speech. My biggest hurdle so far is potty training! I'm at my witts end, this is the third time we've approached it and he just doesn't care that he's having accidents they're all day everyday. A few weeks ago we seemed to be getting somewhere as he was weeing when we put him on the potty and taking himself for poos. He's got a star chart that he seems to like and we've promised him rewards if he does well. The problem seems to have risen when we've introduced pants. He was bare bummed around the house and though there were accidents it was better. He doesnt give any sort of signal hes going to go either. I'm just not sure how to overcome the hurdle any advice would be greatly appreciated.😅

Honestly, no advice but I am right there in the trenches with you. I did Elimination Communication with my son and he was "potty trained" as a baby. Then as soon as he learnt to walk at around 19 months...no more! Outright refused. We have gone back to nappies full time and I am questioning my life choices! Still in nappies now and he's almost 4. He is delayed by about 18months which puts him at about 2-2.5 developmentally so I will try again soon. Xx

@Izzi my son has a very similar delay. He's around 2 with his social communication and speech. It'd lovely to hear he's not alone ❤️

Definitely not alone hun. After researching into SEN playgroups etc I have discovered that there are a lot of people in our boat. Reach out and find your tribe. It's easier when you have support. Xxx
