Was your second baby as costly as the first?

I'm planning for baby number two, but I'm really worried about money. I'm not on the breadline by any means but I do worry about finances and being able to realistically afford baby number two. I'm part time now and my maternity leave pay was bad to begin with. In terms of baby number two, did your monthly costs increase the same as having baby number one?

My second doesn't stop eating, so my food shopping has gone up loads. She's also taking much longer to potty train so costing more in nappies than my first did. Otherwise it's just extra for days out etc.

I totally get where you’re coming from! Having a second baby can definitely add some financial stress. For us, the costs went up, but not as much as with the first. You’ve already got some baby gear and clothes from your first, which helps a lot. Monthly expenses do increase with a second baby. Things like diapers, formula (if you don’t/can’t breastfeed), and childcare ( if you go back to work) add up, but it’s usually not double the cost.

Much cheaper, I haven’t had to buy a lot of things like next to me cot, Moses basket, bedding, some of the clothes, muslins, baby bath, car seat, stroller etc. Do you not have these things still from your first baby ?

Mine did but because she came with a third as well! Otherwise I would day its not as expensive as your first, but after they start weaning the monthly costs is similar foe both. Like yeah no need to buy some big ticket items but it's an extra mouth for your food bills forever, an extra bed... upfront cost cheaper, ongoing cost almost equal.

My first baby I had in the military, so she was free lol Both babies have been pretty much super cheap. Other than medical bills making second baby more expensive. I got tons of stuff for free through Facebook groups and clearance shopping.

I’d say cheaper because I have two girls 2 years apart so I don’t have to buy as much. If I were to have a third that baby would be as expensive as my first if not more because there would be almost 10 years between them. I have zero baby things lol

We reused all the clothes and equipment so didn't need to buy much at all. We bought a new car seat and a cheapy pram but the latter only because we moved between kids and our city pram couldn't cope with where we now live. Our second baby has been super cheap in terms of 'stuff'. However, we had an overlap of 5 months paying for two kids in nursery 4 days a week which was about £3k a month even with funding. Very glad our eldest has started school!

My second has turned into second and third so just as costly as the first 🙈

@Ceri-Ann the new car vibes isn't it omg. And like couldn't even just reuse the car seat, still had to get at least one new one!
