Christmas Gatherings

Hi mamas, I’m wondering what everyone’s thoughts about Christmas is with our new babies! We are doing Christmas Day with just our parents and siblings this year so baby will be with grandparents and aunts/uncles. Which I’m really happy about/excited for. My question is more around larger gatherings.. baby will be 4 weeks at most and we usually attend extended family gatherings. Our families are sensible and I would trust them not to kiss baby etc but I just wondered if it’s a good idea for him to be around so many people. Does any one have any thoughts or feelings about this sort of thing? Thank you in advance ❤️

We're the same....I'm normally around a big extended family. This year, though, we're taking the time to be a family of 3. I'm not sure if it's the right move, but you never get that baby bubble time back, so limiting visitors and soaking it all in. Maybe just don't make commitments and see how you feel at the time.

It is completely up to you. There's nothing wrong with being in a large group if you feel comfortable. Some people get a big concerned just because it is winter anf they haven't had their vaccines yet.

It’s totally up to you and your choice. Normally I host Christmas but this year it’s going to just be me, my partner and baby boy. And then people who want to see him, will let us know a week in advance and they’ll be getting a time to come and stay for a hour max. I made this decision purely because if he comes at 37 weeks, he’d be 10 weeks by Christmas, however if he comes after his due date, so 41/42 weeks, he’ll be 5 weeks old. His age factored in for me as I want this bubble for the three of us as my partner isn’t getting long off after he is born, and with the time of year, I just want to limit his contact with others because he’ll be so vulnerable with no immune system and just because someone feels well, doesn’t mean they aren’t carrying or coming down with something. You just need to do what feels right for you at the time x

Completely up to you 😊 we are hosting this year as our families are all over the country and I didn’t fancy travelling 3+ hours with a baby. We will have about 6 of us on Xmas day and then about 10 of us on Boxing Day so not large numbers but still relatively big and everyone is super sensible in terms of not coming if they weren’t well etc. I’ve told everyone we are buying all the food and drink but everyone to muck in the actual work involved while I’m chilling on the sofa breastfeeding 🤣! I would do what you feel is best for you and your new family x

We’ve already told both sets of parents that we will not be attending any functions this winter because baby will not have had her vaccines yet. They were understanding about it. Protecting my baby is much more important. Plus it’s flu season!
