Hemmorage and retained Placenta

Hi all, with my first pregnancy I hemmoraged and retained my placenta, luckily the Dr managed to get it out before I needed to be rushed for surgery... I am now 35 weeks with baby number 2 and scared it's going to happen again... has anyone experienced this and if it happened once did it happen again?

I had preeclampsia, a retained placenta and a PPH with my first (1.3 litres loss) and I was so scared to have my second, I had a birth reflection and still made no difference to my anxiety. I went into labour at 39+6 with my second, waters broke at 2:30pm and had him at 8:20pm. No retained placenta, no PPH I lost about 600ml and no stitches or medication needed. It was night and day in comparison!

There’s many factors that can contribute to this. Was it an induction? How long were you in labor for? Did you receive any pitocin? Did you get immediate skin to skin? How long did you push for and in what position? How much was the blood loss? How long did it take before your doctor considered it a retained placenta? Some doctors think anything beyond 5mins is retained and force the placenta out, others may wait longer. Some doctors consider 750mL a hemorrhage for example while other will consider a hemorrhage starting at 1000L. I would def discuss your concerns with your OBGYN and go over what happened the first time. Retained placenta and hemorrhage can happen for a variety of reasons and it’s good if you can pinpoint what it was to avoid it next time.
