I've changed my mindset a bit. When people say their kids were out of diapers by 1 year, they don't mean accident free and often they don't mean at night time. Even older kids have accidents sometimes. Even adults have accidents sometimes.... I wouldn't stress about it too much.
Thanks, both! I wouldn’t really call the pees in his nappy “accidents” at least not in the stage where we are now as there is usually a pee already in his nappy when I take it off to set him on the toilet. I guess I’m asking, at what age/stage did you start having odd “accidents” rather than just regular pees (and an occasional poo) in nappies? Are you giving nappy-free time after a successful toilet sit, and if so, how long?
Keep going and back off where necessary if you notice any resistance. Try your best not to stress it. Things might get harder as baby learns to walk and wants to figure out other skills. Leaning into trust is the key. The focus of EC in my opinion is not to get out of diapers earlier but to give the child the correct info from birth about what to do with elimination. They have to be the ones to lead the process of learning. By trusting them to find their way, they usually are out of diapers sooner, but it's not helpful to focus on that as a goal. Be present with the process.
