Counseling / therapy

So up to this point I have been objectively against therapy due to past trauma with it. I am having issue with my husband and I know he won’t do counseling but I think personally I need it. Just to have someone to listen to me or give advice I guess… i have no friends or family I can talk to about what’s going on or my feelings. I can’t afford to pay anything does anyone know if there is free like virtual or phone calls? I have medi-cal. I have no financial means to pay so it would have to be via insurance .

Try calling the number on the back of your card medical should cover something

Medical will give you a large list to choose from. You can call a therapist and set up a free consult where you have a phone call for 15 min to see if they’d be a good match for you. That’s standard so you can consult with as many as you want and then pick the one who you felt most comfortable wkth. You can even ask about how they navigate a client who has prior therapy trauma and see what they say

If you have Medical, therapy is free, and there shouldn’t be a copay. Lots of people do virtual too. You can search Headway or Psychology Today and filter by insurance type. You can also call Access (LA County’s Help line) at 1-800-854-7771 and they will connect you with providers in your area that accept Medical.

It's an amazing thing to be open to receiving mental health services! Congrats! You have a lot of options under Medical. If you have straight scope medical contact your DPSS worker and ask about the process in choosing a provider. If you have a plan under Medi-Cal contact your plan and they should be able to mail you a list of providers in your area or you can search online on their website. Then benefit is that it will be at no cost to you. What plan do you have under medical?
