Black women support group... unifiying or dividing?

Black women are the ones facing the most discrimination in America. In a perfect world, everyone would be treated equally, no matter their race, age or gender. However, it is okay and quite normal to see Black women support groups but never, we shall see a White women support group without pulling out the racist card. Nobody wants to feel excluded because of their race, yet, Black women support group request your picture to identify your race, and accept you within their group. In this application meant to unify women, where we are all moms, all women, what are your thoughts about such group? Unifying or dividing us, women, even more? How can white women show their support, and increase awareness about the black community concerns when they are excluded?

Show your support

That’s true… I can agree there are forums for that, perhaps not on this one as it’s already separated from the public under the issues surrounding motherhood. Perhaps reach out to the group’s creator and ask if you (and women of other colors) can be accepted upon request purely on the basis of awareness and to offer support. It’s true it is hard to spread the word when we are unaware of what the actual issues are from those who suffer them.

I get that. You always see black women support groups which is great. But as soon as you saw a white women group or white people only it’s also gets hate. I’ve only see groups where you can just get added and I accidentally joined a black women support group one time and I did end up leaving because obviously I’m not black but I think to be able to learn how to support others I think it’s great to join those groups too but yeah to have to verify your race I don’t think is the best

I wondered how I would respond to such a ridiculous post... Do you also feel a need to join the Spanish speaking groups, the AAPI, or any other minority group? What about the Muslim/Jewish mom groups? What does a "white" only support group look like? Why are white women so bothered by a black women support group?

Depends on the motive of this post though . I try to avoid black / white / any other colour matters as that is what brings the most division. I am on a black women group and no one asked for pictures . I am also on mixed babies group ( none of my kids are mixed ) just to learn generally and no one asked me why I am there . So I doubt there is a group asking for pictures and if there is, maybe you should mention the particular group name so it can be easily verified . Most groups are generally acceptable once your intentions are not questionable
