Gestational diabetes test

30 + 1 and have my GD test tomorrow, I’m so anxious and scared that I’m going to feel / be sick or pass out whilst waiting. Does anyone have any positive stories or any advice, thanks x

It doesn’t taste bad at all and the two hours pass quite fast. Take some headphones to watch something on your phone

Dont read all the horror stories about this test honestly, it wasn’t bad at all. We had a lovely nurse who had put the drinks in the fridge the night before and honestly it just tasted like flat lemonade. I was worried it was going to be thick liquid but it honestly wasnt and was easy to drink. It didnt take long to drink it all. Then waiting the two hours went by so quickly, we had a few people in our room so the nurse was just cracking on with all of us. It was lovely. Results didnt take too long to come back, ours came back the same day. I didnt feel sick during the test, if anything it had perked me up 🙂 take some snacks for after and water. Our lovely nurse had biscuits and juice for us all after, she was lovely and the biscuits were 10 👌😂 you’ll be absolutely fine though, dont worry ya self 😊 x

The drink tasted nice to me! One thing I would say is have a bottle of water, that will help with any weird feeling! But just keep busy, have a book, watch some shows! It flies by xx

So the drink itself doesn't taste too bad at all! I actually felt quick sick and dizzy during the 2 hour wait which I know isn't what you want to hear but I got up and told the lady ok the desk and they let me lay down in my own room! I took my mini fan too which helped with the sickness but honestly laying down helped the most. If you need to, just tell someone x

I felt the same but it went really well and I actually enjoyed the morning of just sitting reading my book. I got told I couldn’t eat after 10pm the night before but I was getting hungry after tea so had some food about 9.30pm. I think that’s what saved me cos I would have been starving otherwise and that’s when I start to feel sick. Otherwise it was just like a regular midwife appointment and the coffee and cake I bought on the way home tasted amazing 😂

I read the horror stories and was expecting a thick, unpleasant tasting drink, but it just looks like water and wasn’t too bad at all!! Felt absolutely fine whilst waiting - no sickness feeling whatsoever! You’ll be fine!!

The first mouthful of the drink wasn’t great but after that it was fine and wasn’t too much of it. I felt ok really, just kept drinking water and kept myself occupied. You’ll be fine ☺️

Isn’t the test usually really early? Unlikely you would pass out for not eating a couple of hours in the morning?

It’s a sweet drink but my experience was it wasn’t as bad as some have found it. I wouldn’t say it was unpleasant. I was also worried about feeling hungry and light headed but I felt fine (despite being diagnosed with GD the next day). Definitely take something to do to keep you occupied. I watched a bit of iplayer and caught up with all my WhatsApp messages and it went quicker than I thought. You’re allowed to have bits of water so def take a bottle with you and let someone know if you’re feeling poorly. Good luck, you got this 💪🏽
