High blood pressure

Has anyone suffered with really high blood pressure after having baby? I had a c section back in March but every now and again my blood pressure sky rockets, with a really strong pain in my chest, feeling like I’m having a heart attack. I’ve gone to the Drs and got blood pressure meds but currently on 10mg and it’s stupidly strong. Any advice?

I am 2weeks postpartum and my blood pressure was 145/115 for a while. It dropped a little now but still very high from before.

That's a very high reading. What we're you doing before you took this reading? When do you take your medication and what are you on? If I were you I would take pictures of these readings and send them to the GP. They need to investigate this.

Yh same C SECTION and my blood pressure randomly goes up Weird !

I am 12 months postpartum, do some blood works, i’ve been having this problem too since i got back to work after had my son. And i have a hyperthyroidism that was caused by childbirth doesn’t matter normal or c-sect, the cause of this hyperthyroidism is chest pain, heart beating too fast, hard to go to sleep and many more. So my suggestion go to your nearest family medicine and ask them to do a TSH ,T4 , T3 test Because my OB is the one who catches it and ask me to run a blood test

Did you got the 10mg NIFEdipine?

This is a dangerously high blood pressure, especially if you’re having pain in chest, not to freak you out but when it’s this high, you’re at HIGH risk for a stroke. Is it possible you can go to another doctor? This is considered a hypertensive crisis

I had a reading around that high while pregnant, you CAN still get preeclampsia after you give birth! You should definitely talk to your provider or go to your hospital

Your blood pressure is dangerously high. You should see a doctor asap if you haven't already because extremely high blood pressures put you at a high risk for a stroke. I had severe pre-eclampsia less than a week after having my baby and was hospitalized and put on a magnesium drip. @Feriel If you blood pressure reaches 110 on the bottom again or 160 on the top, I recommend going to the er. That's severe pre-eclampsia, which is still possible up to about 6 weeks postpartum.

Dont mean to scare you but a reading above 180 can give u stroke ...i had blood pressure after both my c sections...and had it controlled witb tabs and blood thinners...i remember it getting to 224/112 and the insane headache and feeling a choking effect on throat and chest heaviness; u shouldnot feel that way for more than an hour without calling the ambulance

Yes I had this and had both Preeclampsia and postpartum Preeclampsia. I was readmitted to hospital twice after having my son as the high blood pressure tablets just weren't controlling the spikes enough and I was unable to calm down with my heart palpitations, chest pains and feeling so unwell. I'd really recommend getting checked over and having your medication re-assessed. Childbirth was the cause for mines as never had any issues prior or during my pregnancy. Also not trying to freak you out but you would be safer getting seen ASAP with readings that high, speaking from recent experience of this. The hospital were glad to see me when they saw my readings and said I did the right thing by going in. I did my own research and started taking magnesium capsules, walking more, eating potassium, a healthier diet and that combined has reduced my blood pressure so I'm on a lower dosage of medication now. I'm 12 weeks PP if this helps. Best of luck to you.

Hey mummas, I'm a clinician, I specialise in hypertension. Please feel free to message me. Firstly, ensure your bp machine is correctly calibrated, you have put it on correctly (the smallest error can make a HUGE difference) You really do need silence and calm around you to get an accurate reading. Also, these machines are not as accurate as the "old fashioned" method with a stethoscope. However, if this is your real reading, you do need to go into hospital for IV meds and monitoring. I know it's not ideal & it's also very scary when it happens. I'm more than happy to explain how to put the BP machine on properly etc to help you. Also foods and drinks to avoid & use to help reduce BP. Also, I would definitely say, your meds are not working for you. It takes 2-4 weeks for the meds to settle, if you have been on them for that long or longer, you may need to look at a new antihypertensive and I'm shocked your drs haven't suggested this already

Went back to the drs today and they’ve put me back on 5mg of amlodipine, told me to do urine and bloods, and monitor my pressure 4 times a day for 2/3 weeks and then come back see them for a review. Not really sure what else to do
