Weaning

When is everyone going to start weaning? I know the advice is nothing until 6 months old but friends and family have told me to start with baby porridge and rice at 4 months old? Any advice would be great! 😊

Think the 4 month thing is quite outdated! I’ll be starting at 6 months aslong as baby is ready like I did my first.

The advice used to be 4 months but we know now that their digestive system isn’t quite mature enough until around 6 months. It also greatly reduces the risk of them chocking if they can hold their head up and sit up with minimal support or assistance.

6 months at least. I waited with my first and he quickly moved on from puree to more lumpy puree and blw. My friend used jars from just before 5 months and her baby took literally months to move onto lumpier food. It's hard work so I'm defo in no rush! Plus it doesn't make them sleep better like some people think x

All babies are different, just follow your intuition. My Mums a midwife and said all babies can start from 4m if they are absolutely ready for it but most might start at 6m or later

I started at 5 months for my eldest as she was ready. But advice is six months. You want to start with vegetables, the book “how to wean your baby” is great

Thank you all! It sounds like I will need to wait until 6 months so that’s what I’ll do.
