Gestational diabetes

I’ve just been diagnosed with gestational diabetes but don’t see my doctor for another week. I’m 30 weeks so I’m just curious as to what my next 10 weeks are gonna look like for me. If anyone has had it before and wants to share their experience with me. I’m vegetarian so I don’t know how much more I can restrict my diet, I’m curious as to know what diet looks like for someone with GD. Any info helps. Thanks. 🫶🏼

Less sugar and less carbs. Obviously everything had carbs. But like not eating bread or rice as much because they have tons of carbs. Same with other things. You’d also most likely need to prick your finger. Before you eat and after every meal and what not.

Aim for high protein and veg diet instead of carbs and fruit obviously harder being vegetarian but aim for pulses etc. to fill you instead of carbs. If you are going to eat carbs swap out bread for a seeded multigrain instead of white/wholemeal and try to eat more rice than pasta. And obviously cut sugar where you can. It's not the end of the world, I controlled mine with metformin tablets as it was my resting/fasting levels that were too high because I made all the diet adjustments fine.

I had GD but my MIL prepared all my meals. They want you to eat 3 meals a day if you don’t already & at certain times. (Instructions I was given) Portioning your food too of course so you don’t get over sugar/carbs. Some food that I usually ate, I would have to change to a healthier version. Peanut butter, tortillas, bread. You’ll have to prick your finger before/ after each meal if I remember correctly but it is every few hours. At the appt for GD, the dr should give you a food guide pyramid as well as other resources to help prepare your food. When you deliver they will also prick the baby’s toe to make sure they do not have diabetes.
