How to adopt a child/why is it so expensive?

I’ve had 4 miscarriages so far and a 3yo little girl and while we want for her to have a sibling my heart can’t handle any more miscarriages. I’ve been looking into adoption but god it’s so unreasonably expensive. We live in US, make 230k/y so we can give a good life to another kid, but I can think of so many better ways to spend 30k than for “agency fees”. No wonder kids stay in foster care forever. I also would’ve preferred to adopt an Eastern European kid like me as this way I’m not uprooting a kid and throwing it into a new culture with new values, language or traditions that i might not know about. Any idea where I can find easier/reasonably priced adoptions or just in general share your experience? If I know a mom/couple that wants their kid adopted (don’t mind open adoption) is that an easier/cheaper way to do it?

I’m not sure how you’d go about it. But I know that it can be a lot cheaper if you do like an open adoption or like family to family where you know the g duly and adopt that way. I’ve seen a couple people talks about it but I’m not sure how you’d go about doing it

It’s so expensive to avoid sick people from taking part in human trafficking

@ashley I mean you would think human traffickers have more money than the average hardworking Joe. Like I’m looking at the price to adopt a kid in my country and it’s 58-66 thousand US dollars… the average monthly payment there is 900$ :D In what world is this normal.

I wish I could give my child to you for an adoption 😔

You're saying that no wonder kids stay in foster care but adoption from foster care costs practically nothing. Private adoptions, which are usually newborn adoptions, are through agencies. International adoptions are also costly but so is immigration in general. Adopting from someone you know would actually cost more than adopting from the public system (foster care) because there would be legal costs. With foster care though, many areas do not take applications from people looking to adopt young children because the demand is so high. Everyone wants a young child and no one wants a child that is 8 or over (or even 4 or older) which is the age most kids are when their parents' rights are terminated. Kids don't stay in the foster care system because it is costly. They stay in the system because people don't want older children, many of whom have disabilities, abuse histories, and fetal drug and alcohol exposure. When there is a child under 4--specially healthy white children--many people will apply.

Start with doing foster care. And do adoption through that.
