Not chewing food

My T1 doesn’t chew her food she either swallows things whole or she hoards food in her mouth. Anyone else’s little ones doing this? What can I do? HV isn’t interest nor is the doctor. I’ve tired pretty much everything 😫

My little boy does this and I don’t really have much advice - we have started only giving him a few bits of his meal at a time so he can’t just cram it all in his mouth and it does seem to work sometimes other times it just frustrates him. I also try to remind him to having a drink between each bite to help wash any food down that he’s holding in his mouth. I’m hoping he will just grow out of it with encouragement and reminding to chew and swallow before his next mouthful.

We have the same issue unfortunately. We’re the same as Morgan, we’ve been told it is a phase some kids go through out of laziness and preferring not to have to use their teeth. It’s very frustrating to watch her almost choke on her mouthfuls and cram another one in before she’s chewed and swallowed the last mouthful! We have to do the same sometimes, if she can’t handle all the food at once in front of her we give her a bit of her meal at a time to artificially slow her down. She can get frustrated but does get over it quickly. We’ve actually found leaving chunks of food at full size/ bigger now she’s older and using her spoon and fork has helped massively too with slowing her down as it takes her longer to pick items up and she’s forced to bite them or chew them that way

@Morgan my girl swallows her juice but not the food in her mouth it’s so frustrating. I have to scoop out what’s in her mouth and try start over

I follow a children Dietitian in instagram and she had a video about this saying it is normal se sensory behaviour. I would just cut everything super slow and keep showing the right amount to my little one. My little one goes to hamster mode sometimes, scary and sweet.
