Hi, I had two inductions and natural births with type 1 diabetes. I'm on the pump so didn't need to have any insulin through a cannula and both births were less than 24 hours from the pessary first being inserted to baby being in arms. I don't have a great reaction to the hormones in the pessary myself (I end up feeling very sick) but apart from that they were both really smooth. With the first I had an epidural, but the second (baby is now 9 weeks old) I ended up with no pain relief at all as I fell asleep through the night and by the time I thought I could do with something I was 10cm and told its time to push 😂 Feel free to ask questions if you have any! x
I had a c-section 11 weeks ago. Everything went great. I use an insulin pump (Medtronic) and the Guardian 4 CGM. We had been adjusting my insulin throughout the pregnancy to account for the insulin resistance the pregnancy causes. The plan was to reduce the insulin intake before the scheduled section so I would not get a hypo. However, baby arrived early (at 35 weeks) so that never happened. However, I was allowed to have my pump (inserted on my arm) and CGM during surgery, so I had full control over everything if needed. After the baby was here, I went back to the pre-pregnancy insulin intake. My blood sugars were a bit out of control for a couple of weeks but that was expected because of all the hormones. @Maria hey what did your blood sugars do during labor. Hormones affect them so the induction hormones might mess with me and I’m just really worried about staying in range during
@Bex mine didn't really change! They've stayed the same since starting the pump in pregnancy throughout. My DSN was saying just think, if you don't feel you can then just ask to be put on a sliding scale. Put a new pump on before going in for induction and I just kept a check on them and so did my husband. I showed him how to use the pump so if I needed any bolus he could give it which was good to have as a back up. My whole birth experience with diabetes was brilliant and pretty much the same as someone without. Except we can't use the pool 😞haha x
Hello 👋 I have had 2 c sections and I am a type one diabetic - make sure you have your CGM when you are in surgery - honestly I kept my sugars a little towards the higher end of like 180 or so - so I don’t have a low sugar because that’s just dangerous when you are in surgery. Both the surgeries went smoothly.
