Been put on Metaformin
Someone help! I'm 35+4 and I've just been put on Metaformin (1 during dinner) after my diabetes being diet and exercise controlled... My readings have been really really good. I never really get any highs at all and my fasting levels are always green and good. My lunch levels are the only levels that get a little high sometimes (Like 8.2 and that's the highest reading I've ever gotten) apart from that my fasting levels, after breakfast and after dinner levels are okay... I've been told consistently for weeks that my readings are perfect and that I'm doing really well controlling my levels. I've had to changed my diet so much and have smaller portions which obviously I found really hard at first but once I got into it, it was fine... Just a bit confused as to why I've been put in Metaformin even though my levels are very well controlled. My previous dietician and midwife praised how well I was doing but since getting this new dietician, I'm not quite happy...

@Camilla Hey so I had further conversations with my midwife and a new dietician and they were suprised the other dietician had put me on it as I can go weeks without a high reading... My last high reading was almost 2 weeks ago!! So they investigated some more and found I don't actually need to be on it as sometimes my sugars can fall quite low in the morning anyways and if I was to be on the metaformin, it would have been worse.

Did you have a conversation with them about it? I have noticed I'm in a similar situation - I have calculated and under 10% of all my readings are slightly higher (exactly like you mentioned highest is 8.2). Was advised to start with metformin but no explanation and a rather short phone call. Reading up on NHS and NICE guidelines I understand that we will be advised to use Metformin when we are 3 readings above the range in space of a week. We always have choice and always can discuss the detail with OB, midwives and dieticians- that's what I intend on doing asap before starting any medication.
