Bottle making question

this is a very silly question but I literally can not wrap my head around it.I currently use a prep machine but will be going on a trip to the US which will leave me to have to make bottles on my own. Do i still boil water and give my formula a hot shot and use cooled hot water or do you use distilled water from stores 😂 help a mama out please!! x

I used to microwave a large cup of water and place the cool bottle in the cup of hot water to warm it.

On the go we use purified water bottles, we only warmed bottles if we have premade them and have been in the refrigerator. Then we would carry a 2 thermases one one to keep hot water on and the other to warm said bottle.

At home now I do hot shot method, and use hot boiled water. Then top up with cooled boiled water, that I keep in a covered jug. (I used to use Prep machine, but stopped as I think it adds too much air). I would also recommend you take a Nuby cool. It cools boiling water or formula in 2 mins to the correct temp to feed baby. That way you have an option to go to if you need to cool boiled water quick.

I use filtered or bottle water with my son for his bottles! He has never had a preference on hot/cold bottles, so I just throw a bottle in our bag and use it as needed!

@Brittany so do you not do any hot shot with formula? I think i’m anxious about not having hot water to hotshot my formula

@Hollie thank you! i might just have to do that but i know the UK suggests hotshots but im unsure if in the US its the same since i see some mamas doing not hot shot 😭

Nope! Just use the regular bottled water! If you’re out and about you can probably ask any restaurant for hot water if it makes you more comfortable? Not sure where you’re going in the US!

@Brittany thank you so much! im going to CA so hopefully it will all work out since ill try doing that method :)

To add - the reason it’s recommended that you use boiling water isn’t, primarily, to do with making sure the water is pure. It’s to sterilise the formula powder, as formula isn’t sterile. Once you have used some hot water to sterilise it, I expect it’s fine to top up with bottled water. I’ve not done it myself, but logic would suggest so.
