Why does my tile floor suddenly look shitty?

Fyi nothing weird or unusual got spilled on the floor

Guys this is driving me crazy, I know how to mop, I'm doing it properly, I'm allowing it to fully dry before walking on it. Like wtf floors.

Is it not just the pattern on the tiles or am I being dumb? 😅

Is a steam mop? I love steam mops but I don’t use it often, maybe once a month, coz I feel it lifts everything off better and cleans better but I hate the cord that follows me when I use it so I only use it for a deep clean.

Try a different floor cleaner it could be a build up of residue from your old cleaner. Sorry if you’ve tried that!

It's probably overdue for it to be stripped. Or you or the previous owner wasn't using the best products for the care and maintenance of this particular floor material. For instance, a lot of people forget that the grout has to be sealed every year or so. But build up is normal on these floors and is why occasionally, depending on traffic and routine products used, you need to strip them.

@Alyssa it's a rental and it absolutely definitely hasn't been stripped or maintained how it should 🤣 I classify that type of thing as the landlord's job 😅

@Mama A not dumb! They do have a slight pattern but usually after being cleaned, they look, well, clean. And now they don't 😭

If you scrub a patch with a scrubbing sponge and soda bicarb by hand, does it come up different? Also depending on whether they are porcelain or ceramic you could try a stronger tile cleaner.

Usually tiles and the grout like that start to get dirt buildup that regular mopping doesn’t usually get rid of. If you sprinkle baking soda over it all and then spray vinegar on it and then scrub with a sponge that could help. Otherwise you can mix two parts baking soda with one part hydrogen peroxide and use that to clean the tiles and grout, I’d even maybe add some dish soap to that mixture.

@Ella this type of thing is something landlords only are responsible for doing in between tenants. If they really wanted to be Jack asses they may be able to find grounds to keep your deposit upon moving out if it's bad enough.

@Alyssa we are leaving in January haha, so I think this will be their problem. They're pretty chill, I don't think they'll do anything petty
