Clarification on Fixed Tariff Plan

Hey mums, I may sound silly but I recently received an email from EDF ( my energy provider) regarding the introduction of a fixed tariff plan from October. Could you kindly clarify what this entails? Specifically, does the fixed tariff mean that we are charged a set amount regardless of how much energy we consume, or will usage still impact the final bill?

A fixed tariff means that the prices you pay for your unit charge & standing charge will not increase or decrease. The prices will remain the same regardless if the prices go up on the standard tariff. Your bill could still go up if you use more gas or electric. However the price you pay for it remains the same for the amount of time, your tariff is fixed for {e.g. if you are contracted to 12 months}.

@Sarah🦄 does it remain the same with unlimited usage? Sorry I’m totally confused

Say your unit price is 24pence & your standard charge is 32pence. Those prices don't change. To work out the amount you pay is the units used by the amount you pay per unit. E.g. 100 units x 0.24 = ÂŁ24 30 days in the week x ÂŁ0.32 = ÂŁ9.60 ÂŁ24 + ÂŁ9.60 = ÂŁ33.6 VAT is usually around 5% 33.6Ă·100x5 = 1.68 ÂŁ33.6 + ÂŁ1.68 = ÂŁ35.28 your electric would cost. Then if say the next time you used 150 units then you would do the same sum but using 150 instead of 100. Which means that your bill would cost more. Hope that this is making sense? {Always provide an accurate meter reading each time as that will provide you with an accurate bill. To work out how many units that you have used you would take away the previous meter read from your new meter read}.
