Weaning

How do you go about starting weaning? I’ve been giving porridge between mid morning bottle but baby not wanting to take milk after it at all. Do I just do this once a day? And when do I start the first tastes?

Give milk first, then food I usually wait around an hour! Start of with one meal for a few weeks, then 2 meals and then up to 3! I would start with the allergens!

Get the Ella’s kitchen purple book it’s so good. X

Give morning bottle then breakfast an hour later. Just once per day for the first month or two

I would start with veg rather than porridge. It allows different tastes without filling them up quite so much whereas porridge tastes of nothing but milk (unless you add fruit) but is very filling. I added in 2nd meal after a couple of weeks then 3rd meal after about a month. I alternate milk feeds with solids with about an hour or two in between. Moved on to experiment with thicker/chunkier texture after about a month.

I've been using Charlotte Stirling-Reed's book and found it super helpful for the when, what and how. I actually got it from the library first then bought it. It goes day by day building up from single veggies to more complex meals.

Thanks all!!

You don’t need to do first tastes, you can give baby a full meal straight away if you want, like a bit of whatever you are having
