Porridge

Is anyone giving their baby actual porridge or weetabix for breakfast? My little one is currently getting kendamil porridge for breakfast and we are flying through the packs! When is it okay to give them normal porridge?

my little one is nearly 6 and a half months old and we give him half a weetabix mixed with his milk

We use readybrek

We use regular porridge & weetabix. I usually put peanut butter in the porridge & fruit with weetabix.

@Rebecca oh im terrified to give her peanut butter incase she gets a reaction 😭😭

Yeah we have been - I had been using baby porridge until someone pointed out the amount of sugar etc in it 🥴 Now she has porridge/Weetabix with her milk and some water. I usually add peanut butter or fruits as well x

@Monica I was too at first! I started with a small amount & now give it about once a week. I read some things online that said early exposure can help to reduce the risk of them developing an allergy so just went for it

Weetabix with whole milk and fruit 😊

You can give it as soon as you start weaning. I give my boy ready brek or Weetabix mixed with fruit and nut butter

We give Aptamil wholegrain porridge combined with grated fruits or mousse. Also Weetabix, he loves it 😍

We have given ready brek and weetabix since started weaning x

I use rolled oats for porridge, mixed with a grated pear and some cinnamon. Freezes really well too so I batch it up in big ice cubes x

We give readybrek with some mix of fruit puree/mashed banana and peanut butter, or shredded wheat that’s been soaked for a bit in milk, plus similar toppings as above! Re the peanut butter, you start really small with 1/8th of a teaspoon mixed in, then check for any kind of reaction (I googled the common signs), then if they seem fine, gradually build up the amount each day.

My little one 7month has weetabix we normally do it with breast milk but I’ve given it her with whole milk a couple times.

We've done weetabix and shreddies, both with breastmilk. Not done porridge yet but I'd use normal porridge rather than specific baby ones. We usually give her fruit, crumpet or toast if she has breakfast though at the moment but may do cereal more.

Absolutely; our girls have whole organic cows milk and normal organic porridge blended slightly, they’ve never had anything any different.

@Shenel do you blend these together after cooking?

We do half a weetabix with her milk, and add either fruit of peanut butter to it a few times a week for breakfast and we’ve done normal porridge, same as us kendamil one was getting expensive x

My little girl has weetabix most days, use a bit of her own cow and gate milk. She loves it x

I use normal Scottish rolled oats (blend the oats first) with some formula and some fruit puree

@Angela no I don’t blend after cooking, the fruit all cooks down into the porridge x

@Monica if you’re worried about a reaction, try almond butter first as it’s a lesser allergy 😊

I use regular porridge oats 😊

Does everyone just make the porridge like you would for yourself? If anyone a recipe that you have found worked for your lo, please share 🥰

@Georgia I boil off harder fruits such as apple/pear and blend together with a handful of oats, a dash of formula milk, and softer fruits such as banana. Basically it’s raw oats warmed up by the boiled fruit and hot formula and all blended together to make a smoother consistency.
