How do you change formulas?

Help please! My LB is now 11 weeks old (corrected age 6 weeks). He's been on SMA First Steps since the beginning. He's spitting up a lot and was prescribed Gaviscon. Even though the Gaviscon helps with the spitting up, he is often unsettled after feedings, very fussy, crying and seems to be in pain. GP said it's colics (which seems to be code for "can't be bothered") and prescribed the Gaviscon. We asked the HV and they said that switching formula might make it worse... We are not really big fans of indefinitely giving him Gaviscon, and it doesn't seem to help with the fussiness anyway. I just hate seeing him struggle. Did anyone switch formulas? Which one should we try if we go for it? How did you switch, just stopped one and started the other or somehow gradually?

Our little girl didn't have any problems with any brand, but mother-in-law accidentally bought SMA and not Aptamil. We just finished one and started the other straightaway. Now those two tubs have gone, we have gone back to Aptamil (only because we can only get Aptamil ready made where we live so it was easier). X

I switched my boys milk from Kendamil to Aptamil and just stopped it all together straight away but i swapped it over on his morning feed instead of doing a day on both if that makes sense 😅 and HV’s said to me not to change his milk and ride it out but im glad i did as he is so much better on it! X

My wee man was on sma and got quite bad colic so we gave him infacol and switched milks to cow and gate. He’s been amazing ever since! Try not to keep switching formulas though, wait a couple weeks if the next one isn’t working for your wee one before you switch again. My health visitor said it can upset their tummy xx

I swapped my sons milk from kendamil to hipp organic and was prescribed gaviscon too it wasn’t working so started using carobel and he’s like another baby and that was when he was around 5-6 weeks old he’s 12 weeks now and a dream baby compared to what we where dealing with before xx

We switched from aptamil anti reflux to hipp organic anti reflux just straight swap, he was also on kendamil before that, and has taken to formula changes really well. Most of them have the same ingredients anyway x

Thank you all for your responses. You have all been 10 times more helpful than the GP or HV! We will get Aptamil and see if it gets any better.

Dr also tried to prescribe us gaviscon but with experience with my first I knew it wouldn’t completely stop the crying and unsettled behaviour so I said no and they prescribed omerprazole and my LG Is now a completely different baby she hardly ever cries and isn’t in pain, I’d recommend getting a second opinion if possible x

@danielle So sorry for the late response, just saw your comment. We switched his formula from SMA to Aptamil and that, with the Gaviscon, is working wonders. However, giving him Gaviscon all the time is not really ideal. We don't want him to be hooked on medication so young when there might be something else that can be done. To me it is ridiculous that we cannot see a pediatrician and have to go to the GP. Their response is just "colics", "Gaviscon" and "wait it out". I just want to see a pediatrician, someone who's specialised in children. In all of Europe, this is the norm, you are a child, you see a pediatrician. You have heart issues, you go to a cardiologist. You have MS, you go to a neurologist. We are considering going to my home country just to see someone specialized who will actually check our boy and help him rather than going for a generic "solution"...
