How did you find what you wanted to do for the rest of your life?

Hi mamas. First of all I just want to say that I am a recovering workaholic. I have no problem with working hard or making things work. With that being said, I am struggling to find something that makes me happy. I’m 27 years old, I have an almost 7 year old son and have been a single mom for 5 of those years. I’m now in school studying psychology with the drive to become a marriage and family therapist one day. In the mean time though, I’m trying to find a small business to work for either in the trades or pool industry as an office manager or dispatcher. I’d also love to explore being an accountant but I don’t have the credentials and feel like this would be more than challenging to prove to others that I can do for them despite being a quick learner. The fact of the matter is, I love working for small businesses and have gotten lost a few times working for large corporations who never really made me feel at home with work. I need something mentally stimulating where I can wear multiple hats and have other counting on me to do a job but also offers the flexibility of needing to work from home on days where my son is sick. I have over 11 years of customer service experience in retail, sales, and also 3 years of office management and dispatching experience(specifically in the trades). I know how to create estimates and invoices etc. as well. Does anyone have any recommendations in the Queen Creek, San Tan, Florence, area by chance on someone who may be hiring within that niche? I’d also like to add that I would need at least $22/hr to make ends meet and live comfortably for me and my son. Any leads at all would be greatly appreciated and welcomed. Thanks so much in advance!

I have so many thoughts! What you’re experiencing is so relatable. I read the book Start With Why and it really helped me. I think the first place to start is ask yourself “how do I want to live?” if you start with the “what” you’ll always be chasing happiness, but when you start with the why then it doesn’t matter what you do as long as it provides the life you want. I hope that’s helpful! Message me if you wanna chat more, I’ve been in your shoes and figured some stuff out.

@Rachel awwwwe! I love this!!! I’m so excited for my end goal, but the in-between is a little daunting career wise. I’m kind of leaning towards being a teacher once I get my bachelors and teaching certificate and having that kind of carry me until I graduate with a PhD in 10 ish years. I know a lot of teachers in AZ are struggling right now with managing their classrooms too though but I’m hopeful it will be a good move. 🥰 Thank you so much for your advice! I’m definitely going to find that book and read it!!
