Bottles

When did you stop sterilising bottles? I know the nhs recommended 12 months but my little one puts everything in their mouth as it is🤣

The advice on this changes per country. Where are you located?

@Charley I’m in the UK

If your in the UK then stop sterilising when you stop feeding formula . They do put everything in their mouth and it seems counterintuitive however the formula contains a bacteria called Cronobacter sakazakii this is why you make it with boiling water first to eliminate it . If we don’t sterilise the bottle milk harbours bacteria easily and bottles have lots of places this bacteria can hide . So potentially can make your child very poorly x

What Lou said ^ it’s about the bacteria milk can make. Once you move to cows milk at 12 months you can stop

I stopped at 12 months even though I breastfed. I used this for advice https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/baby/breastfeeding-and-bottle-feeding/bottle-feeding/sterilising-baby-bottles/

I stopped at around 6 months old. I was using the Milton cold water steriliser but she was reacting to it around her mouth so I’ve been using Milton washing up liquid instead. Soak them in hot water from the kettle with the Milton soap and then wash them with the same soap again x

Should also add we’re on a amino acid formula as well not the regular cows milk formula x
