Baby led weaning

We just started BLW our LO yesterday. Gave him some avocado - mashed on spoon and also as spears. The spears he just squeezed in his hand - nothing to the mouth. The spoon he took in twice in his mouth and just chewed the spoon after. I’m not really sure if he’s getting any food in him. Not sure if this is how it’s supposed to be or if we should do purées spoon feeding.

I’ve done 4 days and I’d say my baby has swallowed once or twice. It’s all good. Food is fun they say until 1.

Totally normal. My little girl is 2 weeks in and can still be like this

I’m doing a combined approach. Baby loves to put the whole foods in her mouth and chomp but won’t swallow. & then like you I’ll mash some and try to spoon feed it - I also offer baby the spoon. 2 weeks in doesn’t eat much. I’ve decided after advice to offer baby porridge too & she actually eats that! If you do strictly BLW then it’s only encouraged for baby to eat normal porridge but I’m using baby, I was getting stressed out that my baby wasn’t “eating” anything even though I know, and have told people on here myself, food is just for “fun” atm. I just want to build up her confidence with getting used to having food and then introducing textures. I’m attempting porridge in a morning and proper food at lunch / tea x

I have only done two days so far with purees so far. She will swollow the food if i feed her. When I give her the spoon to use she uses it as a chew toy. She seems to like it so far, I'm not overly worried what she has as her main nutrition is from milk

Totally normal remember at thus stage it's just tastes etc milk is still their number one source of nutrition !
