Baby food jars(age)

Hii everyone, just a quick question. Does anyone know why some baby food jars/pouches state 7+ months or higher if babies can try almost anything from 6 months old? Like even some of the 7+ month ones say no added sugars or salts etc and all of the ingredients is what my baby has tried before? I usually make my babies food but just wanted to know the answer to this as my mum brought him a food jar with 7 months on so would my 6 month old be ok to eat it? Thanks.

The 7 + month jars have little bits in them and aren’t as smooth as the 6 + month ones. Personally I would wait until 7 months but it depends what you’re comfortable with and what your baby has already been managing to eat.

lots of us are doing baby led weaning where baby is eating whole foods, so baby will definitely be fine! it’s just a guideline going off of the ‘start with purées, then add chunks’ type pathway x

I was giving the 10m+ ones around 9 months - as said above it’s to do with texture rather than ingredients. My LG was good with chewing and handled the bigger lumps well. You might find they gag more on it but gagging is part of learning. But then she fully went off pouches/purses and preferred real food.

Thankyou so much everyone ! Xx
