Potty training

For the most part, our girl has been doing great with potty training with very few accidents. However, recently, she's been refusing to go. We'll ask her about every 30 minutes to an hour "Let's go sit on the potty" and every time it's a no lol. And then a few minutes later she'll have an accident. Is there something we can do better? Are we asking too frequently? We already have an incentive system in place but even that doesn't get her to budge lol

My daughter is doing great going on the potty and wearing underwear, but she refuses to go if we ask her too frequently. I've found at this time she can go 2 to almost 3 hours between pees. But if I ask more frequently she tells me NO.

@Lori good to know, I'm thinking that's what might be happening with us. And I'm also assuming you meant "wearing" underwear and not "eating" 🤣🤣

Omg yes!! WEARING hahaha 😆 just edited it.

I read a book that stated not to give an incentive for exactly that reason. The author also stated that learning to use the potty is like learning to walk or crawl or talk. It’s a hard life skill to master and we don’t incentivize those achievements either. My daughter did the same thing after doing well for a while. I started telling her about what we were going to do next afterwards. For example eat a snack, read a book, prep a meal. What ever we have planned next in our routine I would remind her that we wouldn’t be able to do it until she went potty. If she still resisted, I’d ask her why she didn’t want to go. Sometimes she would explain she wants to do something small like first and I’ll allow her and then she’ll go potty afterwards. For example she wants to pick her doll off the floor and put her away and I’ll allow that but o would remind her to be quick. Sometimes, I’ll turn it into a game for example I’d race her to the bathroom door. When she makes it on the potty I’d say

In an exaggerated voice something along the lines of, “ oh my goodness. That pee pee or poo poo was humongous. Your tummy must be feeling much better now that you got that super stinky poo poo or pee pee out.” She finds that amusing. 🤷🏻‍♀️
