Midwife

Hi when you inform the GP you’re pregnant how long do you have to wait for a midwife to be in contact?

you have to self refer, you don’t have to inform gp anymore. i referred on south east but i think this is where you self refer if you’re from peterborough https://www.nwangliaft.nhs.uk/your-pregnancy/

GPs don’t actually have anything to do with pregnancy. You need to get in touch with your community midwives as they are usually based at the hospital and they will either send you paperwork to fill out or direct you onto a form on the hospitals website to register your pregnancy x

it says “making an appointment with us” click that, and then it says something like “here’s how to self refer” and just follow the instructions xxx

I registered with my pregnancy notes online x

Yeah I just had to notify the local mid wives that I was pregnant and soon within 3 weeks later had my first appointment at 4 weeks

I think you can be waiting quite awhile, usually when you're about 10 weeks they'll contact you

@Laurie i didn’t wait that long in my case .. had my first appointment at 4 weeks then bloods at 8 weeks

@Samantha okay lovely well everywhere’s different, my self referral said i’d hear from midwife within 4 weeks but i actually heard from them two days after referral as they had people on annual leave throughout the month so wanted to get people signed up before people were off, i think on your self referral website it says they aim to see you before you’re 10 weeks xx

@Amy yeah I informed the GP and they sent me a link to register it online which I’ve done just wondered how long they take to get in contact

My GPS has a referral QR code in reception and two days later got my appointment for end of Oct which will be 8/9 weeks xx

@Amy Oh really that's so early, never heard of that. Maybe it varies by area

I did the exact same as you, and it took about 1 week to hear from a midwife, and was given my booking appointment for the 8 week mark. Everywhere does it so differently, and different areas get back to you quicker/or other areas will be slightly delayed. If you don’t hear anything within 2 weeks there should be a number to ring x

i rang the gp and the receptionist referred me and i was contacted for my first appointment x

@Samantha Varies. I heard that they'd registered my referral in like 2 days but didn't hear anything about an appointment or anything else for about a fortnight..I waited a while and by the time I heard I was actually about to call them myself! The contact was just log ins for badger notes and then an appointment for around the time I'd be 11 weeks. That was it. Then I just had to wait!

http://www.mypregnancynotes.com when I contacted my gp they sent me this link to register my own pregnancy and then was contacted shortly after for a booking appointment then they done all the referral to the hospital of my choose. I live in Cambridge so they can refer you to Peterborough Hospital if that’s what you want.

Yeah they sent me this too which I’ve completed x

Mine was through my GP surgery, so it does vary by region. The midwife comes to the surgery once a week and I see her there. She phoned me for an initial chat within 2 days of informing the surgery I was pregnant, then I saw her in person for my first appointment 2 weeks later

@Samantha if that’s the case now you just wait to be called for your booking appointment
