Does your LO listen to you read books to them?

My boy just won't sit and listen or even make the effort to look at pictures. Take him to the library to pick his own books, he just runs riot and not bothered about books 😕

Nope she doesn't. My eldest did at this age though

Mine has only just started to sit and listen more. About a month ago he’d be racing around his room and not paying the slightest bit of attention!

We started with interactive books. Like that’s not my or where’s mrs… where my daughter had to do something. Then we slowly moved onto more narrative versions and now she’s into anything. We have read to her everyday since she was 6 months old so the habit has been built and always read before bed. But it’s never too late to start building up reading habits (which it sounds like you are doing already just by attempting to read to your son. 😊

@Lauren that's reassuring, thank you. I'll look into these interactive books. It's a recent thing with reading with him as when he was younger, he was in a strict routine and I just never thought to incorporate reading into it! I regret now but yes deffo starting the good habbit

This is normal. Keep reading even when they're playing. They're still absorbing everything. Encourage them to come check in and look at pictures. I will read in a whisper or quiet voice so they have to be quiet to hear me.

At bedtime we do 2 books. She picks one and I pick one, I let her “read” her book and she’ll be super silly and tell me a story etc and then when that’s done, I say it’s my turn now and then I will read the book to her and that has seemed to help x

@Morgan I like the idea of using a quiet voice. I noticed I read quite loud and fast which was annoying even for myself so I stopped that. Curios to use the whisper/quieter reading. Thank you x
