Mirena coil

Am I supposed to have periods when I’ve got the mirena coil in, or is this the one that stops periods? TIA

after my initial bleeding from having baby due to c section i have only spotted the odd once or twice. i don’t get my period at all. the only thing i get is the mood swings when im due on😂😂

I still get periods after a year they’re just lighter x

Stopped them totally for me but I have friends that have that coil that still get light periods so I think it depends on the individual annoyingly

It can take up to 6 months for the coil to settle and then you can still have periods but they will probably be a lot lighter than previously. In some cases, you'll have no bleeding

It's different in every person, unfortunately I'm one of the unlucky ones, I had my coil fitted in February and I'm still bleeding from it, I've only had about 2 weeks total where I haven't bled. They've said I'm one of the unlucky ones that it'll probably take the full year to settle 🙃 Most people aren't that unlucky though and will have light or no periods x

I still bleed monthly with mine

My periods are longer than before having the mirena fitted and a bit heavier too, but I’ve only had 3 periods since having it fitted so hoping that it’s just the settling in phase 🤞🏼

I had probs 5-6 periods (which was more like spotting for a few days then a proper period) during the 5 years I had mine in.

The Mirena coil is known for often reducing or stopping periods for many people who use it. It's normal to have changes in your menstrual cycle when using the Mirena coil. If you have any concerns, it's always a good idea to check in with your healthcare provider. Take care!
