Postpartum anxiety

Hi all, I suffer really badly with postpartum anxiety and I find it gets triggered alot by being home alone or out and about alone with little one, if any of you suffered or are suffering with postpartum anxiety I would appreciate any tricks you found helped as I've tried so many things and it just feels never ending so willing to try it all😅

Have you tried talking with your GP or health visitor? I suffered quite bad when my daughter was first born. I wouldn’t stand near open or closed windows cos I’d have images in my head of her falling out of them. I wouldn’t sleep because I was worried someone would break in & take her. Every night I’d panick. It was awful. I did have to get some help from the GP because without it things just get worse! Xx

@Sarah yeah I've been back and forth to the GP, I'm currently waiting for therapy but need something to sort of help in the mean time as I get horrible episodes with it feeling really unwell and faint so just want it gone😞xx

CBT worked well for me with my first. The question that I asked myself a lot in the end, which was very helpful was ‘how likely is it that this (thing I’m anxious about) will happen?’ It helped me to worry less about things that are not very likely to happen.

Do you have any friends or sisters you can call over and keep you company, chill at yours or call out for brunch? I didn’t have anxiety or PPD but I’m such a people person that I had visitors in hospital and day 1 at home, I loved the company so I’d call my sisters over for “milk” or to look after baby while I showered but in reality I just wanted some company so I made “excuses” 😂 then they’d stay for 3-4hrs just chilling and watching Netflix. Hence I’m not lonely or isolated PP, and then I started taking him out every day to baby bounce at the library from 2m and there I made some friends to spend my days with.

If you speak to your health visitor or call the 0-19 service they can also refer you to the perinatal team .. that’s what I did and they offer lots of services through the team 🥰

Have you pinpointed what is the specific root of this anxiety? For example, anxious that something bad will happen to baby while you’re alone, anxious that you don’t have space to be “the old you”, etc? That may be a good first step in working through your situation. Your feelings are valid and you are strong 🫶

@Kellie unfortunately all my family live 3 hours away and haven't really made many friends around here yet 😫 that sounds lovely you had all that though 🥰

@Kat I haven't done that yet no but thank you I will give it a go, means alot thank you 🥰

@Kelly-Louise Thank you I'll also look into this🥰

@Eva CBT is what I've got happening with therapy when it starts so hopefully that will do something, thank you 🥰
