How long was your postpartum meal train set up for?

I'm looking to get a clearer picture of what's acceptable. I've known people what all of these options, and I just don't know what's too little or too much.

I didn't get any meal train but I would say 4 weeks? 6 weeks would be great if you have the village for that! I ended up just cooking and freezing simple meals before birth

Any amount of a “postpartum meal train” is a blessing. I kept trying to ask for this instead of a baby shower but was told “it was asking too much” of people. I’ve only had one friend have one. Hers lasted 4 weeks of dinners only. Most of the people that contributed were from church.

Didn’t get one. Wish I did. But we hadn’t been living here for long and no family was here

A few family members and people in the church sent meals for the first week

I didn’t get one, but I wished I had or at least done freezer meals. I think 2-4 weeks is nice!

Ours lasted through the newborn stage, so 12 weeks. We had friends, family, co-workers, and church members sign-up.

A lot of people forget breakfast is an important meal, so my husband and I made like 50 breakfast burritos. Best decision ever

Instead of the more traditional meal train, we got gifted subscriptions to meal services like hello fresh, blue apron, cook unity, etc. I'm neurotic and don't eat out of just anyone's kitchen, so getting a service that delivered ingredients and recipes or premade meals helped a ton

Never had one but the first 2 weeks are the toughest. I would go 2-3 weeks, and I’m sure if you’re still struggling people would be happy to continue?

We never had one but my MIL came and helped us prep the freezer for PP it was great. I did pasta sauce, bean & cheese burritos, dal (lentils), broccoli and cheesy rice casserole, baked oatmeal, etc. I just google freezer friendly PP meals. It was a lot of work but it was sooo nice to be able to grab something from the freezer and just reheat or reheat and boil pasta.

I never had a meal train but 2-4 weeks would of been absolutely amazing

I would seriously appreciate any amount of time, to be honest. I've never had a meal train before. But I wish I would have one, especially with the baby I'm about to have this month. He's my 6th (and last) baby, and a meal train sounds like a dream to me. Those first few weeks are so stinkin' hard.

My MIL gave us meal coupons...she just wrote a bunch of different meals on slips of paper. Some were silly like candy and popcorn, some breakfast, some lunch/dinner. I think there was 24 of them and we just had to give her 24hr notice and she would make and deliver whatever coupon we asked for. Honestly we didn't use them right away, we probably started using around 2 weeks and finished them around 12 weeks.

What’s a meal train?

I had 2 friends make meals for me & I think they only lasted for a few weeks, but it helped.

How come iv never heard of this?!? Damn that would of been nice lol I did have loads of mums help tho ,my mum helped me and baby out for 2-3 weeks after my c section, she would help day and night ,blessed that I had her help x

Any amount is good, honestly. Whatever you can manage to scrap together. My MIL lives w us and cooked me 2 meals a day most days (coz some meals are pot-based and can last days, like PHO, so she didn’t cook every day but I had food every day to eat, PHO and bone broth and soups are super nourishing for the new mum and she knew that, cooked me a lot of soups) she took care of me for like, 2m. Her and Hubby combined and any sisters/friends who dropped by w food are a huge blessing. I craved company so I rang who I wanted around and they’d either make/bring me food from home or they’ll ask “what did I wanna eat” etc as they’re coming. Or just a chai latte from maccas.

Never heard of it? What does it mean xx

Not heard of this? If it’s people cooking for you, I had 2 meals cooked for us. If it’s meals in the freezer cooked before birth, I had 2 done. Never heard of people making meals for others for weeks. 2 weeks thought would of been nice. I think 3 max

A what? Never even heard of that

For the Bri'ish ladies, a meal train is food delivered to a family in need (when a baby is born, there's a death in the family, someone has surgery, etc) usually through a group like church, organized by other family members and friends.

I am British but knew what you meant. We just don't have a name for it here. It is just called helping out 😏

I didn’t get too cool either but for my next baby I anticipate to have a C section so yes will need to meal preps for a few weeks

I was back in the kitchen cooking two days after I gave birth. No one cooked meals for us but me lol. I would say any amount of time would be amazing. I think two weeks is appropriate. Four weeks sounds like a long time to me but ultimately it's your choice what you are going to ask and you know what your people would be willing to do.

my husband had someone come cook for me for 2 weeks and when they left he cooked for me
