Insulin Question

Is anybody taking Insulin for Gestational Diabetes and after they eat the numbers are high? I take it 10 minutes before breakfast and before bed. I wait an hour before sticking my finger and my numbers are always about 145 it supposed to be 140. I have an appointment on Tuesday but I feel this isn’t right.

You’re measuring different to me. But my sugars are always high I’m currently on 6 units before each meal and shouldn’t have a reading above 7.7 but mine are usually around the 9 mark. I will adjust my insulin tomorrow (I have permission to up after a few days) until I get the balance. This isn’t my first GD

@Tiffany So you get 6 units with every meal? Are you doing it 1 or 2 hours after you eat?

So I inject 6 units 10 mins before meals, and 6 units of long acting before bed. And 1 hour after I eat I check. Are you being sick at all that can raise levels, I’m only 13 weeks so still experiencing sickness. It’s very rare at the minute if I get a good reading I’m nearly there on fasting

I found everytime I was taking it I was very high so I followed a few things like always snack on salted crisps or nuts , always have veg first onn evening meal n cut out all unecassary sugar xxx

I no longer take insulin before meals just fasting x

@Tiffany No sickness. Yesterday I took the bedtime insulin and it was like I drank salt water. It was like that for two hours.

@Sarah Could it be like that because I just started insulin before I was just watching my diet.

Yes possibly I found following diets overwhelming I just stuck to the basic rules no more than 50-60carbohydrates each meal. And the veg first. My bedtime insulin I'm now down to 2units by just changing my bedtime snack to cheese and biscuits only have 2 I do occasionally have dark chocolate 2 cubes as a treat and doesn't spike. We are so strict on ourself so try not stress and keep up with the eating every 2/3 hours it really does make a difference xxxx
