Weaning tips

For those of you who have started weaning or done it before, do you have any tips on where to start? I’m going to do purées first, how long would you recommend to do this before moving on to finger food?

We're 2 weeks into purees, not saying it's the right thing every baby is different but this is what we've done. 1 week of 1 meal a day (dinner) all veg purees and 2nd week introduced breakfast which has varied from avocado, porridge, yogurt, banana etc. the last 2 days I've started giving him finger foods at lunch just to play with and help with my confidence so far a celery stick and cucumber finger nothing fancy but he's loved it. I'm planning to do another week of this then switch to more textured mashed stuff and really soft finger foods and then work our way up to meals as we eat as he seems ready

I've found the Joe wicks wean in 15 book has lots of good recipes for weaning. We're in to our second week, still sticking to one meal a day for now. I give LO something softer texture (mash/ porridge/ yogurt etc) and then some finger foods like sweet potato wedges, cucumber, toast with the crust cut off. I've introduced one allergen every 3 days as reactions don't always appear immediately. If doing baby led then gagging is normal - if they're loud and red leave them to it, if they're silent and blue, they need you. The only other advice I was given was to avoid giving sweet things to start with as this can apparently lead to fussy eating. So we started the first week with things like broccoli, weetabix, porridge, mashed potato etc x

Just take it chill start very small portions measure 3 teaspoons worth out per meal and only one meal a day at first or you might have trouble with constipation. Avoid most salt and sugar but otherwise just have fun give them what you're having mushed or blended . Follow your instincts don't stress it.

Ellas kitchen has some good resources. I got their book for free from boots the other week as it was a coupon from the parents club. I started yesturday and we are doing purees to start. I'm doing 1 meal a day until she's like 8 months then 2 meals till shes about 10 monthe then 3 till 12 months then 1 or 2 snwcks plus 3 meals after that, roughly. We are starting with vegetables. Yesturday she had carrot. Today in going to boil some brocoli and blits it. You should do single flavours for first tasted and about the size of an ice cube. I'm going to do the first week with veg and then next week do an alligen, which I probably will do egg first plus more veg.
