sterilising

So my little girl is 6 months old and is now drinking water, eating foods etc etc! I’ve personally stopped sterilising her bottles because she drinks tap water from a non sterile cup, eats off non sterile plates and spoons etc! she was chewing the table in a restaurant yesterday so i thought what’s the point! has anyone else done the same?xx

I saw somewhere that if baby is on formula you should sterilise bottles unless they aren’t anymore due to the bacteria but bottles are the only thing I’ll ever sterilise now x

I think they say 12 months due to the milk bacteria or something?? My friend stopped at 6 months. I’ll do til 12 as it’s only twice a day now - was endless for the first few months.

I think milk stuff I would… I breastfeed and only really sterilise if milks being stored for at all long juuust incase it encourages bacteria growth.

If on formula they still need to be sterilised due to bacteria

she’s on amino acid milk and her bottles are washed out straight away…. ahhhh i’m not sure what to do!x

You should sterilise anything for formula as formula isn't sterile and contains bacteria but everything else is fine to just wash- beakers, spoons, bowls etc

As others have said, it’s down to the bacteria in formula. What bottles do you use? Is microwaving them an option for ease? X

@Gemma it’s not the faff that bothers me if they need doing, i’m just wondering whether they actually do now! her formula isn’t made up with boiling water - it’s cooled boiled water so technically it’s not really sterile?! i mean i know the water is but im not burning the nasties with boiling water! but yes, good idea to use the microwave as i have MAM bottles for her and it’s so much easier xx

My little guy is on a CMPA formula made with cool boiled water too. Honestly I don’t think I’ll not bother sterilising for much longer either, he’s starting to crawl and practically licking the floor now anyway. I get it when they’re tiny new babies but now they’re older they can handle some germs x
