Please don’t judge - making a bottle?

Hi girls I feel very daft.. but could anyone explain me to me how I make a bottle with powder formula? I’m due in a few weeks and I’m not sure how to make a bottle at all. I have a prep machine but also have been told about the hot shot method would anyone be able to tell me how I make a bottle?

I also feel clueless about this, but I’ve found TikTok quite useful! Lots of good videos on there x

It should tell you on the tub of formula you’ve got, boiled water to formula ratio etc. Add the boiled water first, then the amount of formula scoops, and then mix. Then cool by submerging most the bottle in cold water (not the teat, just up to where the milk stops). If you add the formula before the boiled water then your measurements not going to be 100% accurate as the powder is taking up room in the bottle if that makes sense? As for the hot shot method I used this whilst out and about or you need a bottle asap and don’t have the time to leave it to cool but you do have to think about it a bit more so not great if you’re tired🤣 basically if you need to make a 5oz bottle and your formula requires 1 scoop formula per 1oz of water so 5 scoops altogether then I would add 1oz hot boiled water to the bottle and all 5 scoops formula to that, mix it well and then top up with an already measured amount of 4oz cool boiled water to make up the 5oz bottle! X

Also to add to that, the cool water you add to hot shot method doesn’t actually necessarily need to be cooled boiled water, you can just use tap or bottled if you’re stuck for cool boiled. As long as you’ve added that first amount of hot boiled water to the formula and mixed that first. The reason that hot water added to formula must be boiled is to kill any bacteria in the formula powder, rather than because the baby must drink boiled water. A bottle of formula made up needs to be used within 2 hours, 1 hour if baby has already started drinking from it. Hope this helps x

It’s normally 1 oz to 1 scoop, so if you’ve got a 5 oz bottle it’s normally 5 scoops but read the back before. Hot water first then the scoops, give it a shake and let it cool, i used to put it in a pan of cold water after to cool down quicker

Just gently swirl or stir to mix it up, don’t shake (this creates bubbles which causes gas). You got this ❤️

Usually it's fill the kettle with tap water, bring to boil and wait 30 mins, always put water into a clean sterile bottle first followed by the number of level scoops of formula and swirl / shake to make sure it's all mixed up well with no lumps. Cool the feed down by placing the bottle under cold running water and check the temperature on your wrist before feeding baby. You'll be fine honestly it's really easy once you get the hang of it. Just follow the instructions on your chosen brand of formula's tin. Lots of NHS videos available online https://youtu.be/M5OWjnRCRTY?si=84dKSPZpDZhFDRlQ
