Has anyone else been diagnosed with a subchorionic haematoma?

Hope you are all doing well! I'm 10+5 and I've already had 4 scans due to bleeding (big gushes at some points!). Baby is doing so well and we're officially further than we've been in the last 7 years so taking the milestone as a win. I've been diagnosed with a subchorionic hematoma, which research seems to show is more common in ivf pregnancies, especially fresh transfers. Is anyone else suffering with this? All I've been told is not to worry and it should fix itself but it's so hard when every time I go to the loo there's blood or I'm expecting blood. I've been told to stop the fragmin and aspirin until I've had a good few days of no bleeding which doesn't seem to be happening so I'm worried that'll affect things. Is anyone else not taking these from this early on? My protocol says 12 weeks to stop. Sorry lots of questions! Thanks for reading if you made it this far 😂

Hey, I had my first gush at 13 weeks it was terrifying like a murder seen at 2.30am I had a scan and baby was fine and they diagnosed a subchorionic hematoma or SCH as they call them. I then had another gush the following night just not as bad. They waited a week to scan again as we were actually going on holiday. The scan showed it was still there but baby was still good. My bleeding turned to dark brown which is good and then stopped for 2 days and then it was back 😫 still dark brown but wondering when it will end. I have another scan when we get back for 18th. After previous loss and the IVF journey alone it’s a very lonely terrifying place. My clinic said to carry on with my progesterone until 16weeks. I’m told not to panic but have also had conversations that it doesn’t always end well so I’m in a constant on edge state. I’m part of a FB group which is good but can also be pretty upsetting too. I’m here to chat and let me know if you do want the details of the group. X

Also I started taking Alpha lipoic acid after some research as it is known in the SCH community to help reabsorb the bleed.

Hi Lucy, thank you for sharing and I'm so sorry you're going through this! Mines been on/off since 7 weeks and it's so hard to feel positive when you see it, even after seeing the baby is fine as it's the potential risk. I have also seen about the ALA and I went to get some but they say not to take whilst pregnant which put me off. I've been having chia seeds every day as apparently that's a natural source but not sure if it'll be enough. I'm also staying hydrated and taking vitamin c. I did join the group but it didn't really help my mindset unfortunately. What ALA are you taking? My clinic has also increased my progesterone and I have a review next Wednesday. The desperation to help it heal is unreal and I agree this whole process can be very lonely. How far along are you now?

I had a subchorionic hematoma in my current pregnancy. I’d struggled with pregnancy loss previously so the bleeding was really triggering for me and gave me anxiety 24/7. We had regular scans and thankfully by my 12 week scan the bleed had cleared up. I’m now 39 weeks and baby is healthy and we should be meeting her any day now! I know they’re scary and can cause so much anxiety but they’re more common than you think. The bleeding looks so much worse than it is. I’m unsure about the medication but I would listen to the professionals as they know what they’re talking about. Lots of love to you 💗

People seem to talk of bleeding but you don’t get many who are diagnosed with SCH. It is a tough thing when they scan and say baby is all good we’ll just have to wait and see, like great for you scanning me but I have to live with that hovering over me ☹️. I’ll send over the details of the one I’m taking. There aren’t enough studies to show it works but there are no negative studies that we could find. I started pure pomegranate juice but it was so sickly I felt sick. I’m 15+1 and actually have a gender reveal planned for 3 days after the scan. I was put in a position of I planned it all and hoped everything would go well or didn’t celebrate and remain in a stressed state which I find IVF has already robbed me of some normal celebrations.

@Becca that's very reassuring! Thank you so much. Trying to stay positive but if this bleeding can just stop now it would really help that 😂 not long til my 12 week so hoping it'll be resolved by then x

@Lucy I've read it's because ivf pregnancies have more earlier scans which is why the rate seems higher but who knows. I completely get what you're saying! Really hope it clears up for you! Just another thing to add to an already emotional rollercoaster of a time! Thank you for the recommendation. ALA seems to be a natural thing like omega 3 and I'm taking that as per my protocol so don't see how this would do any harm x
