Aptamil to Hipp Organic

My little girl is 4 weeks, experiencing constipation, colic and reflux. I've heard some babes have issues with Aptamil doing this and after some research, many people recommend Hipp Organic. So I've got the new formula, but it's completely different measurements. With Aptamil we're currently on 5 scoops to 150ml, whereas HIpp recommends 4 scoops for 120ml at this age. Shall I downsize her feed? Is it because its more nutrient dense or something and she won't need as much at the minute? Very confused, don't want to upset LO too much.

Ignore all the measurement recommendations on the tubs and make however oz your girl wants to eat.

You might find she continues to be hungry if you make 120mls. I'm assuming it's 1 scoop to 30mls in your new tin? If it's 4 scoops to 120mls you could do 5 scoops to 150mls right? You're still following recommendations based on the specific tin (scoop per ml). Never adjust THAT recommendation, as in don't add more mls or more scoops than what it says on the tin, but you can adjust more or less as directed (1 scoop to 30mls as in this tin)

Would also say I don’t necessarily think it’s the milk I just think at this tiny age it’s their stomachs getting used to digesting the milk x

My little one was like this pretty much straight away, by the time she hit 3.5 month she ended up getting out on aptamil and gaviscon (monitored by gp) she was originally on cow and gate when she was first born doctors recommended the gaviscon and to change to aptamil and it’s settled her massively. Might be worth going to the gp first before changing milk with her being so young her digestive system is still developing and getting use to things xx

Hey! It's great that you're looking into different formula options for your little one. Switching formulas can sometimes come with changes in measurements due to differences in nutrient density. Since Hipp Organic recommends 4 scoops for 120ml, it might be more concentrated than the Aptamil you were using. You can try following the new measurements and see how your baby responds. It's always a good idea to consult with your healthcare provider if you have any concerns about feeding adjustments. Your baby's comfort and well-being are the top priority. Hang in there! 💕

@Sarah never ignore how many scoops should go with a certain amount of water. Not doing so can lead to choking, sickness etc. yes, change the amount of OZ if milk they’re having and feed them what they want, but never change the amount on the tub against water. That’s what she meant.

I'm not sure what you mean by the 5 scoops to 150ml where hipp recommends 4 scoops to 120ml ... as in you think you're overfeeding as hipp recommends your little one should only be having 120ml? Cas if she's hungry etc then give what you'd normally give 🙂

Thank you everyone, the GP recommended we carry on with Aptamil for the time being so will power through for now 😇

We did exactly the same! Started with Aptamil advanced and my boy was getting constipated and reflux so we switched to Hipp around 4/5 weeks old and he's doing much better on it! We went with the bigger feed and adjusted if needed, if your girl isn't hungry she won't finish it or you'll notice more spit up. We flicked back and forth with 4/5oz till he was consistent with 5. X

We also slowly introduced the change of formula, instead of switching completely straight away x

We had the same issue with our eldest daughter. Around 6/7weeks old she was so uncomfortable on Aptamil due to constipation that she would scream the place down for a couple of hours in the night. Our health visitor recommended Hipp and it helped straight away, she was like a different baby being able to go to the toilet and no crying in the night. I also did a baby massage course and this also really helped her tummy as they had exercises to help with constipation and wind x
