Solids

Baby is just a week shy of 6 months. We’ve been doing solids for 2 weeks now so far oatmeal, avocado, sweet potatoe and pea purée! Each time I blend it with formula to make it more of a purée. As of now I feed her a solid one time a day (when she wakes up) Question - for baby’s similar age.. how often are we giving them solids? Should I increase? My understanding is they’re still getting most of their nutrients from milk (BM/formula). So I don’t overdue it more than once a day but she LOVES solids and showing way less interest in milk lol.. what do I do?? Would love some tips with your LO eating schedule as an example cause I’m lost!

Oh that’s helpful, thank you! I was told I don’t need to give her water on the side since she’s getting it with her solids/milk still! Is this true for you? Every source says something diff.. can’t keep up!

@Natalie girlllll the lack of common information is so unsettling. My pediatrician didn’t recommend solids until 6 months yet I see so many that say 4 months. We have not offered water yet but have our 6 month appt next week and am hoping for some more guidance. We’ve really only done oatmeal and a couple purées so far within the last week. But I did buy a starter cup! Solid starts says at this age you can offer up to 2oz but not necessary. I think it’s more to help keep their digestive track moving and grooving but we just offer prunes.

We started solids right after 4 months per the pediatricians recommendation. Kind of started sporadically because technically it’s just for trying out until they’re older. At our almost 6 month appointment (for a checkup), Pedi said we could do two “meals” a day. We haven’t started that yet. I don’t give on a schedule either, just when we can in the day. She does breakout with fruit so far so we are holding off on fruits for a bit, focusing on cereal and veggies. As for water, we started .5. - 1 oz of water as needed. This helps her not get constipated and she loves it. Hoping to get the all clear to give her more after her 6 month appnt in two weeks.

For my first we did once a day until 7 months then went to twice a day with baby led weaning so she really wasn’t getting much. For this little one I’ve just done it when we have something she can have one day she had a slice of apple, peas, and a carrot all separate. None of it actually made it in as she’s still just getting used to things

Once a day until 7/8 months and offer water during meal for practice so in a cup and not bottle 😊

You’re doing great! Usually around 9 months or so is when I say they typically get into a groove and begin prepping for structured meals and snacks, as they’re closer to the 1 year mark. I offer solids 45min-1hr after the first bottle and 1.5 hours after her 3rd bottle which has her eating around 5pm which is when we’re prepping and eating dinner anyways. It’s not everyday but getting into a flexible routine at this point. Only offering water to get her acclimated with her dinner, so it’s not something I track. Solid starts is a great resource.

I was told by my daughters doctor 2-3 times a day I’m choosing 2 I’m doing after her first bottle (so she’s not so cranky) and later in the evening

@Katelyn my pediatrician told me 6 months at her 4 months appt but she's been grabbing food from us since about 3 and 3/4 to 4 months. She lovesssss food and can't get enough she feeds herself and has since 5 months she just turned 6 mo today!
