Introducing a bottle

I have a 2 month old who had a tongue and lip tie release at 1 week old. He is struggling with getting off nipple shields and taking bottles. We are trying to introduce a bottle so that I can get a break and do my pottery which requires me to be out of the house for 3.5 hours. I also want my husband to be able to help with night feeds so I can get a bit more rest. My husband is having a hard time bottle feeding. Our baby seems to take the bottle a bit better from me. I am not sure if it’s because I am more stubborn and try a bunch of things until it works and my husband gives up or if it’s just that my baby cooperates for me only. Is anyone else’s husband struggling with bottle feeding? Any suggestions on how to make this work. Everything went so much smoother with our first and he had a tongue and lip tie release also.

Slow paced bottle feeding for breastfed babies. Personally I had a boppy pillow I would put my baby on on his side and use the pillow to support him and my hand while giving him a bottle

@Althea 🇵🇸🍉 we will try using our breastfeeding pillow! Thanks for the suggestion. we are following our LC advice for feeding. We are doing slow paced feeding with our baby sitting somewhat upright, the bottle is level so milk isn’t pooring into his mouth and we are keeping him snuggled in our arms so he feels secure. Our baby seems to get upset when my husband tries to feed him and he has a hard time calming him down. Then he gets frustrated and I take over and he cooperates for me.

My boyfriend is also having a hard time with bottlefeeding. She even sometimes won’t even take it for me. She’s only really done it twice so far I had to go through a couple different bottles and tips to even get her to take it but the nuk bottle seems to be working the most. My baby was also tongue tied as well and we had her snipped. She is still struggling with a latch at times, but is usually pretty good. I completely get the frustration as she will literally scream, bloody murder and stay starved, then to eat off the bottom most times the best advice I can give is keep trying and don’t give up. They’ll either take it or they won’t, unfortunately hopefully in your case, they will take it.😊

@Donna thank you! It’s nice to know that we aren’t the only ones with this struggle. Our LC recommended the evenflo bottle since it’s the closest bottle to a breast. We were using dr browns before and that did not work for him at all! This one is much better. I have fed him 5+ bottles with some struggling but not too bad. The nuk looks similar but might be worth a try is your still struggling. I think our biggest problem is not taking the bottle from dad. Good luck! I hope it all works out for you also :)
