Travelling in early pregnancy

I've just found out I'm pregnant with baby number 2, only just over 4 weeks. We're due to go to Lanzarote next week and I'm wondering if there are any precautions I need to take when traveling? I had an ectopic pregnancy a few years ago, I've just booked my early scan for 6 weeks when we got back from holiday but the lady at the hospital has worried me, "oh just be careful travelling and make sure you know where the hospital is" and I pretty much feel like cancelling the holiday entirely.

I had a risky pregnancy and my doctor told me that in early stages there is just nothing we could do. I don’t understand well why she told you that since my doctor told me that on that stage nothing could be done in case something went wrong… maybe she told you due to the ectopic pregnancy, my risk was due to a immunological syndrome I traveled a lot and ask about if flying was any risk and in his opinion it wasn’t Either way I have no more idea than what I asked him back then

Congratulations! I understand that you must be anxious and that comment probably didn’t help at all- but personally, I wouldn’t cancel! Lanzarote isn’t a risky place to travel to in terms of your safety in pregnancy, so no precautions needed, and there is a hospital should there be an emergency. It’s a reasonably short flight away should you really need to come home. You aren’t going to be away for long if you’re back for the scan at 6w, and so you’ll have your reassurance for the pregnancy before you know it. If you think you’ll be able to enjoy it, go! Early pregnancy anxiety after loss will happen whether you’re at home or abroad and the holiday might be a welcome distraction whilst you wait to see your little bean on the screen when you’re back. Obviously if you’re very anxious about being somewhere familiar for the next couple of weeks, then staying home may be best for your mental health.

I flew every fortnight with baby 1, there’s no risk. Like @Virginia said, there’s no point worrying you about hospital awareness and being careful… that early there’s nothing in your control anyway. There’s no risks with flying, airport scanners and you are very early for the usual advice of compression stockings and being active. Definitely go and enjoy yourself but just be ready for some morning sickness at that stage. Enjoy some last minute summer sun on your skin and a warm pool xx

Thank you ladies, I wasn't feeling too bad about the holiday (apart from missing out on the cocktails!) until I called the hospital!! If anything were to go wrong, it will happen whether I'm here or on holiday and I've looked up the hospitals and they look fine.

Go and enjoy ! I also had ectopic p. in the past…. I’ve been away with my first one in first and second trimester… now in my second pregnancy and second trimester planning to go to Majorka in two weeks time. I think it’s even more safe as you are doing to Europe and if anything you can always go to hospital just check your insurance. Doctors are fear mongers sunshine and a bit of warmth will benefit you and your baby.
